भारत का प्राचीन इतिहास– जनपद एवं महाजनपद || Ancient History of India - Janpada and Mahajanapada

After the Vedic civilization, around the sixth century BC, people started settling in small groups along the rivers, these places are called 'Janpad' . These people are called 'Arya' . Arya literally means 'superior (shreshtha)' . Districts have developed only due to mutual merger of Aryan castes. Large and powerful districts are called 'Mahajanapada' . The development of Mahajanapadas began from the sixth century BCE. At this time, widespread use of iron started in eastern Uttar Pradesh and western Bihar. This led to an increase in yield and economic changes. This led to commerce and trade. The use of iron weapons made the Kshatriya classes more powerful. All these changes resulted in changes in the tribal life of the Rig Vedic period and due to the awakening of the regional spirit, 'cities' started to be created. The total number of Mahajanapadas was 16. We get its mention from the Buddhist scriptures 'Mahavastu', 'Angussa Nikaya' and Jain texts 'Bhagwati Sutra' . Of all these Mahajanapadas, 16 Mahajanapadas were the most powerful. These Mahajanapadas were Magadha, Kaushal, Vatsa and Avanti. 'Ashmak' was the only district that was situated on the banks of the Godavari River in South India. Vajji and Malla Mahajanapada had a republican system, while all other Mahajanapadas had a monarchical system. A text entitled 'Mahaparinirvanasutt' provides information about the six metros. These metros are Champa, Rajgriha, Kashi, Kaushambi, Shravasti and Saket . Magadha, the chief Mahajanapada of this period, conquered all other Mahajanapadas and created the kingdom of Magadha. Vaishali's 'Lichchavi Republic' is considered the world's first republic. It was the capital of Vajji Sangha . This republic was formed in 500 BCE. The oldest magnificent metropolis in the world is 'Pataliputra' (221 BCE). One of the oldest schools in the world is the 'Nalanda University' of ancient India. It was founded by the ruler of the Gupta dynasty 'Kumaragupta I' .
